Glimpses of God... In recent years, we've noticed an increased interest in spiritual themes in today's popular music outside the Christian subculture. I call them, Glimpses of God. Some of them are produced by Christian artists working in the mainstream music industry. Others are nonbelievers who are clearly soul searching. Regardless, these challenging examples give the listener something to think about, and an open door to discussing matters of faith with non-Christians. I have here a couple of songs: Evanescence - The Open Door Are they or aren't they? Despite past comments about the intentions of Evanescence, lead singer Amy Lee continues to flirt with Christianity on the band's new album. Five for Fighting - Two Lights John Ondrasik notes that the older and more experienced he gets with his songwriting, the more God keeps finding way into his words and music. His latest recording does seem to reflect this. Bob Dylan - Modern Times The latest from America's legendary songwriter poet is in step with his other recent efforts, offering laid-black blues/folk that deals with themes of brokenness and mortality.
Pastor preached a series on fulfilling the cultural mandate...
so what is it exactly about?
My view on fulfilling the cultural mandate as a musician; songs (all kinds) magnify and exalt God. He is reflected in the songs you hear. Songs that speak of Romance, Tragedy, Love, Depression...
Have a great day.
